The municipality of Caldas da Rainha needed to replace its old litter bins with a more modern, durable solution better suited to effective selective waste collection. The challenge of this project, carried out in collaboration with our official distributor Resopre, was to identify a solution capable of withstanding an environment with high levels of humidity and salinity while encouraging recycling among users of public spaces.

The chosen solution was the ROMA bin, one of our flagship products, with more than 300 units installed throughout the municipality. Its design features three separate compartments for paper, plastic packaging and glass, making it easier to separate waste at source while streamlining collection operations thanks to it lockable hinged door.

The ROMA bin is manufactured from prolyethylene, a material that offers outstanding resistance to UV radiation, humidity and saline environments. These properties ensure a long service life, even in coastal locations, while eliminating the need for maintenance and reducing the long-term upkeep costs of urban furniture.

As part of the project, the bins were customised with the commercial district’s crest and specific waste stream icons to identify each recycling fraction, making it easier for users to separate waste correctly.

At Grup Fábregas, we believe that urban furniture is much more than a functional element. It is also a tool for encouraging responsible habits and promoting the principles of the circular economy. Projects such as the one in Caldas da Rainha demonstrate that small initiatives –such as making recycling easier in public spaces—can make a meaningful contribution to creating more sustainable municipalities with a stronger commitment to protecting the environment.
