A complete urban furniture renewal

Valle d’Aran – Vielha

The municipality of Vielha, in the Val d’Aran, undertook a comprehensive renewal of its urban furniture with a clear objective: to replace worn and inconsistent elements with durable, sustainable and maintenance-free that would unify the municipality’s appearance while reducing long-term maintenance costs.

Planters

We replaced standard steel with corten steel

The previous planters, manufactured from painted standard steel, had begun to show signs of corrosion and presented an inconsistent appearance. They were replaced with GALA planters, manufactured from corten steel: a material that naturally develops a protective patina, preventing corrosion without the need for additional treatments while providing an elegant architectural finish.

Key improvements:

  • Unified materials and design throughout the municipality

  • Elegant finish that blends seamlessly with the mountain surroundings

  • Maintenance-free — corten steel protects itself naturally

Bins

We replaced virgin polyethylene with recycled plastic

Papeleras IBIZA URBAN con logo del ayuntamiento y cenicero integrado.

The existing bins, manufactured from virgin polyethylene, were replaced with the IBIZA URBAN model, made from post-consumer recycled plastic recovered from the yellow recycling bin steam. In addition to being a more sustainable solution, they feature an integrated aluminium ashtray on the top, helping to reduce cigarette litter in public spaces.

Key improvements:

  • Manufactured from post-consumer recycled plastic — a genuine circular economy solution

  • Integrated aluminium ashtray with separate collection compartment

  • Customised with the municipality’s crest

Benches

We replaced steel and wood with 100% recycled plastic

The existing benches combined steel and wood –materials that require regular maintenance—and had reached an advanced state of deterioration. The variety of models and manufacturers also created a fragmented visual identity throughout the municipality. The chosen solution was the ECOCITY bench, manufactured entirely from recycled plastic, with no metal reinforcement, and featuring custom-made grey slats produced specifically at the request of the municipality.

Key improvement:

  • 100% recycled plastic — no wood, no metal, no paint

  • Maintenance-free: will not rust, splinter or fade

  • Complete standardisation of design and materials throughout the municipality

  • Bespoke slat colour customised to the municipality’s requirements

Bollards

We replaced rigid materials with flexible polyurethane.

C-430-TPU flexible polyurethane bollard.

Traditional steel, cast iron and wood bollards are prone to bending, cracking or breaking under the repeated impacts typical of urban traffic, resulting in frequent replacement. They were replaced with the C-430-TPU bollard, manufactured from flexible polyurethane: a material capable of absorbing impacts and returning to its original position, with a certified service life of up to 1,000 impacts without requiring replacement.

Key improvements:

  • Standardised design and materials thoughout the public realm

  • Certified to withstand up to 1,000 impacts while returning to its original position

  • Maintenance-free — eliminating replacement costs
