Ibiza selective waste collection bins at Port Ginesta, Castelldefels – 2026
Port Ginesta needed to replace its old bins, which had become outdated both functionally and aesthetically. They were low-capacity models, without lids and showing clear signs of rust –unsuitable for a marine environment, where salinity and intensive use demand more durable and efficient solutions.
Grup Fábregas proposed several alternatives until identifying the option that best met the marina’s needs: the IBIZA bin , installed in various colours to facilitate selective waste collection and improve the organisation of shared areas.
Made from polyethylene, the IBIZA bin requires no maintenance and does not rust due to salinity –a key advantage in coastal locations. Its design includes an “anti-seagull” hat-style cover , preventing birds from accessing the interior and scattering waste, helping to keep the surroundings clean and tidy. It also features a side door for bin removal, a practical solution that speeds up emptying and maintenance tasks for staff.
For general waste, the IBIZA OCEAN model –manufactured using recycled marine waste- was the preferred choice. A way of raising awareness about the importance of the circular economy and the protection of marine environments in a specific directly linked to the sea.
The project also includes customisation of the bins with the marina’s crest on the door , reinforcing the identity of the space and ensuring seamless integration into the port environment.
An intervention that demonstrates how urban furniture can improve waste management, withstand demanding conditions, and convey sustainability values – without compromising on design or practicality.
